This was one of the ‘beauties’ I found in one of Dad’s tins of old photos. He generally concentrated on landscapes and seascapes but was a sucker for people concentrating on all sorts of activities.
I have no idea where this was taken but it was clearly in the 1960s, given the cars and the haircuts and fashion.
Times were a lot simpler then, as I can even recall, and how I’d love to see the other end of the rope and who and how many were involved in the fun and games.
What a wonderful shot of a time gone by.
Yeah, I love it too.
That lady certainly had her “heels dug in for the long haul” and has the attention of those near her focused too on what is on the other end…It certainly works with ones imagination as to what it is…Determination is the watch word here or the caption…
Love this summation, though I think it’s a man!
His feet look pretty well planted, I’d wager the rope ended up going his way. So fun to look back at old photographs…
Yeah, the determined look speaks volumes but the onlookers on his side look at bot tense too!
She looks pretty chill, doesn’t she?
I’m with Yardsailor below, thinking he’s a ‘he’ but chill all the same!
Ha Ha–looks like a Texas horse woman to me. 🙂
But I enlarged it and can see where you are coming from.
I know for sure that we aren’t talking Texas here whatever about anything else!!
🙂
Looks like a he to me. I have a great picture from the 70’s of my 8 year old son giving it his all in his first tug of war.
Yes, I think he’s a he.
I’d love to see your tug of war pic of your son.
I’d love to be on one end or the other of that “tug of war”. Your Dad captured this perfectly!
It looks like great fun, for sure.
I love this photo!!!
I’m so glad. It’s got a soft spot in my heart as well.
Hope you had sweet dreams.

Well depicted anecdote of the flash from the past
Thanks very much
Great photo. If you knew the location Jean the local paper would love it and those pictured would be recognised in no time. Tug of war still popular in Ireland among the farming community I think. It was quite popular in Jersey at one time with each parish having a team, but it’s been gone for 20 – 30 years at this stage.
I know and it could be absolutely anywhere in the country.
Believe it or not, I called a report I once wrote ‘Tug of War.’
