Six Activities in Six Weeks

A letter writer to the Irish Times that I heard about on radio the other day came up with the idea of setting ourselves the goal of doing 6 activities in our 6 weeks of Lockdown. Two that I remember are: renewing contact with 6 friends with whom one has lost touch and reading 6 books.

I have been mulling over this and here’s my list:

#Write 6 thank you letters to 6 people who have been really kind to me during my life.

#Try out 6 new vegetarian/vegan recipes

#Plant up 6 pots with shade loving flowers/shrubs to brighten a dark, dank, dreary spot at the side of the house.

#Leave out 6 painted stones with inspirational quotes along my walking routes within the 5km limit

#Read 6 books that I have put aside and never opened

#Dip into the following 6 activities:

  • Dancing
  • Skipping
  • Listening to classical music
  • Sorting my late father’s photos
  • Knitting
  • Birdwatching

What would your 6×6 be? I’d love to know.

  1. 1.Review, sort and put my personal papers in order. 2. Try and clean and get rid of things no longer useful 3. Get the yard tidy 4. Think about what to do for the holidays where social distancing is a mandate 5. Do some baking which I haven’t done for a time 6. Do what I find enjoyable and have more heart to heart conversations with hubby and adult children. .I think as we age our ideas of what is important and what is not sets the stage…

  2. 1 – Finish carving a loon from a block I cut out on my bandsaw 25 years ago.
2- Finish filling in the answers to the “Father’s Legacy” book my son bought me at least 20 years ago.
3- Sell my SLR, lenses, filters, etc.
4- Finish a photo book of our trip to Nicaragua.
5- Do a photo book of our trips to Tennessee, and Connecticut this fall.
6- Patch water damage on a wall of the attic stairway.

      1. I meant it; your blogs have contributed to me while I was still teaching–no matter the topic–and they still do. I did not give you my list because (1) we are not on lockdown although IMO we should be, and way too many are not even doing the minimum, (2) we have locked ourselves down in our household, but (3) since retiring, I have filled my time with more than I could have imagined with creative, intellectual, and new pursuits. Still, wishing you and everyone the very best as we grapple with this uncharted territory.

  3. Wonderful idea.
Lemme see… what would my six be?
    1. Organise my papers that are helter skelter all over the place
    2. Set up my accounting programme so I can finally take control
    3. Finish unpacking boxes (I only moved in June 2019…ahem)
    4. Declutter
    5. Read more books. (I’ll probably be too exhausted after 1-5!)
