    1. Robins always lift my spirit.
      The caption came to me because there were a few days in November when the birds seemed to be silent and that took me to the opening of John Keats’ ‘La Belle Dame Sans Merci:

      Ah, what can ail thee, wretched wight,
      Alone and palely loitering;
      The sedge is withered from the lake,
      And no birds sing.

      In addition, Mother and I used to have code on the phone when we wanted to know if the other was ‘able to talk freely.’ So we’d just say, ‘Are you alone or palely?’

      I probably should have said all this in the post!
