Secrets of a Happy Life ~ Gatherings from Ireland # 323
One of the secrets of a happy life is continuous small treats. (Iris Murdoch)
Swans in the Anne Valley, Co. Waterford
Swans never fail to cheer me and I went in search of them today on the calm waters of the Anne Valley. There they were ~ tranquil, perfect soulmates melting into each other and their calm waters.

Beautiful to watch at a distance? Yes. Tranquil? Not hardly. Swans can be quite aggressive and mean. The cob (male) has spurs on his legs, and if he lifts his leg out of the water, his intention may be to cut you. They make an awful hissing noise that is rather vulgar, and should be taken as a warning when you hear it. If you’re wading in a pond, or fishing on the bank when they decide to come up to you, it would be a good idea to have a boat paddle handy. I’ve never eaten swan, but I once thought they intended to have me for lunch.
Beautiful and they do look happy together! Sometimes while walking through the neighborhood, I’ve seen a family of turkeys just wandering along and that’s always fun because it’s so unexpected. Either that or chocolate can be another small treat. 🙂
Beautiful photo! I love the deer around here, very peaceful and docile and I love ducks, especially, mallard, with their beautiful colors…this is all aside from loving my chocolate lab, Copper Boy, too! he’s our family treat! 🙂
Have a lovely weekend, Jean! xo

Sheila, yes chocolate is very much a treat, especially handmade truffles!

Well, I can’t leave out chocolate or lattes, either! 🙂
Oh I’m with you all the way, Lauren!
