Did you ever feel the need to post a poem ~ a poem which brings solace and light?
I just love this one from the great Derek Mahon and I hope you do too!
Everything is Going to be All Right
How should I not be glad to contemplate
the clouds clearing beyond the dormer window
and a high tide reflected on the ceiling?
There will be dying, there will be dying,
but there is no need to go into that.
The poems flow from the hand unbidden
and the hidden source is the watchful heart.
The sun rises in spite of everything
and the far cities are beautiful and bright.
I lie here in a riot of sunlight
watching the day break and the clouds flying.
Everything is going to be all right.
Derek Mahon
You have, my dear Jean, given me the urge to read more poetry! Thank you!
Oh I’m so pleased to hear that!
This poem is balm for the soul, thank you for sharing. 🙂
Susan, I’m thrilled you like it too!
Such comforting words, for some reason. Like the Jesus Christ Superstar song.
Susan, I think there’s an element of that soothing one can feel as a child about the words; that belief that things will be all right when a beloved grown-up says so!
I do like this one, it has touched a chord within and I am going to keep it for my collection! You always seem to pick the perfect poem at the right moment!
Hi Nancy, this was a case of needing a poem after a rather dark day and this morning, I was so pleased to see that the sun was blazing and all seemed well again with the world. Hope your day is proceeding well all those miles away.
Oh, I love this one too! I’ve just posted The Mayo Tao by Mahon – hope you can pop over and read/re-read.
Safia, thrilled to make my way over to re-read the Mayo Tao. Thanks for dropping by.
