Happy Arthur’s Day ~ Gatherings from Ireland # 256

Arthur’s Day was first organised by Diageo in 2009 to promote the 250th anniversary of its Guinness brewing company and as part of it Guinness drinkers were asked  by the brewing company to raise a glass to the memory of Arthur Guinness at 17:59 referring back to the founding year 1759.

I was spurred into action today by a post by a blogger I greatly admire,  Meticulous Mick, http://meticulousmick.wordpress.com/ which drew attention to an old Guinness ad in Kinsale, Co. Cork.

Here in Tramore, Co. Waterford, the iconic Grand Hotel has some fabulous old Guinness murals on its outside walls. The Grand Hotel, I should add, is almost as old as Guinness, having opened in 1790. http://www.grand-hotel.ie/grand-tramore-history.html

So as the clock ticks towards 17:59, let me show you the murals and wish you a safe and happy Arthur’s Day from lovely Tramore.
